US Embassy in Mogadishu welcomes completion of Somalia’s Upper House Elections, urges FMS to conclude House of the People elections before the end of 2021

Mogadishu (Radio Maanta) The US Embassy in Mogadishu on Sunday welcomed the completion of the Upper House elections and urged Federal member states’ leader to honor Somali prime minister’s call to conclude the house of the People elections before the end of 2021.

“We welcome yesterday’s completion of the Upper House elections. It’s time now for Said Abdullahi Deni of Puntland, Ahmed Sheikh Mohamed Islam of Jubbaland, Ahmed Abdi Karie Qoorqoor of Galmudug, Ali Gudlawe Hussein of Hirshabelle and Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed of Southwest to honor Prime Minister Rooble’s call to conclude the House of the People elections before the end of 2021.” The statement from the US Embassy in Mogadishu said on twitter, “Funding is available to complete a significant portion of the House of the People elections, thanks to the candidate registration fees already collected and contributions from Somalia’s partners, including the United States.”

The statement from the US government which was published on its twitter handle follows after Galmdug stae of Somalia on Saturday completed the election of the last two senators in the upper house, completing the 54 seats in Somalia’s Upper House.

Senator Abdi Qaybdiid was re-elected as a senator in the Upper House, while Senator Abdi Osman Hared, was also elected to the last seat in the Upper House of the Parliament of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

The Federal Elections Implementation Team has set a deadline for the elections of the House of the People which is 24 Dec.  On Saturday commission sent Parliamentary Election materials to some of the country’s Federal State Members.

The commission officially announces that the elections will start in all Federal Member States and Mogadishu on November 16 2021.
