A Somali police officer kills a young man in the town of Guri’el in Central Somalia

A Somali police on Tuesday killed a young man who was identified as Faroole Diiriye Raagge in the center of the town.

Witnesses said the young man was doing his normal routine work where he paints the houses, when he got shot.

There are conflicting accounts of how the young man was shot, however several witnesses said that the police fired at civilians, then the bullet hit Raagge who was among the civilians.

Galmudug police did not comment on the murder nor did they arrest the killer.

This is the first time, Police officer shoots to death a civilian since the Galmudug forces and allied government forces took over the town from Ahlu Sunna Waljama’a.

In Somalia Police officers who kill civilians usually go unpunished.

In July 2018, A Somali police officer shot death a young journalist Abdirizak Qasim Iman who was returning from a normal assignment at the SIMAD University in Mogadishu when he shot him on the head resulting Abdirizak’s demise. The police officer is reportedly still on the loose, despite verdict by the Somali military court.
