Somalia has today awarded the first Air Operator Certificate (AOC) to pilots and airlines for the first time in 30 years marking yet another major milestone in the country’s aviation industry.
Roble lauded the Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) for its efforts in upgrading the civil aviation sector in the country in recent years.
He called on commercial airlines to obtain the licenses to enable them to meet local and international aviation standards.
The Air Operator Certificate allows the operator to allow it to use aircraft for commercial purposes.
The award of the certificates is another step in growing the aviation sector in Somalia.
In August, the SCAA launched the construction of the Aircraft Maintenance Facility in Mogadishu to allow servicing and maintenance of aircraft in the country.
